NYPD psychological exam (interview)

hello, i am 21 years old, trying to get hired as a NYPD cadet while im still in college, the hiring process is similar to that of regular PO's, i have gone thru the medical, agility(JST) and written psychological exams, what remains now is the oral psychological interview with a psychiatrist, i was wondering what kind of questions they ask, and if anyone had any advice for me, i hear they ask about ur past relationships as in girlfriends, so far i have had no luck with women, and im afraid if i say i havent had any girlfriends they might think im weird or something and disqualify me, anyone have any advice on how to answer this question and what other kinds of questions them may ask? i appreciate any help provided.

answer their questions honestly and if you havent had any girlfriends maybe your just gay and in NY thats not even close to being wierd. I wouldnt run into the shrinks office and say "hey I have never had a girlfriend" if it comes up it comes up no big deal

The best adivise anyone can give you is to be truthful. Tell them what you feel, not what you think they want to hear. They have very large BS radars and will know if your lying. Just tell them the truth and you will be fine.

They're not going to disqualify you based on the fact that you have bad luck with woman, or because you might be gay. Neither makes you a bad person, or a poor police candidate.

You are only 21........i wouldn't worry about not having any girlfriends. They will be more concerned about how you handle stress & anger, your life choices you have made/plan on making, and how you scored on the psych test.

The department Psychologist or Psychiatrist will determine what they are going to ask you based on the written test that you took. Many times the Minnesota Multiphasic test. The officers that have answered are 100% on. Answer the questions honestly. They are not going to try to trick you into saying something stupid. But obviously it's very important that we have people in LE that don't want to go out and shoot everyone for fun. Good luck and don't worry about this.

TELL THEM YOU HATE COPS. That your goal in life is to be assigned to IAD as soon as possible so you can clean up the Department and rat on fellow cops; that Kelly is the best chief in the whole US of A and that Bloomberg (or is burg) is the greatest Mayor New York ever had.

Remind them that you hate the Military, Hillery is cool and Chuck Shumer and Chas Rangel are roll models along with Kelly and Bloombu(e)rg. Let them know that 25K per year is just great, unions suck and you JUST love to write parking/jaywalking tickets.

You will either be sent right to the Academy after College or the nut house for thinking Hillery is cool.

Don't worry, a lot of young men and women haven't had affairs and they're not homosexual.
Some have heard so much about AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases that they've shied away from having an affair til the right person comes along.
The Psch may ask you if you like women and if he/she does just give an honest answer.

would they ask about my military service, i have an uncharaterized chapter 11 discharge which i got during basic training when i was 18, i havent been disqualified yet, the interview is the last part, would this be soemthing they would ask about and would it be soemthing that would likely dq me?, i thank all of you in advance that have given me useful answers, i greatly appreciate it

Sorry... IMO, you'll have a problem with this, so I'd suggest you look for another carreer, other than law enforcement.

Yeah -- you're going to be asked about that. And it'll might be a problem. But -- I can guarantee that if you try to hide it or lie about it, it WILL be a problem.

All I can say is if some of the guys on my department can pass a psych and get hired (myself included ;) ) , and you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about.

Cause I will tell you this...some of the guys I work with just scare the hell out of me...again...myself included :D.

EDIT:

Anyways, I don't know what the military deal is about, but everything above pertains only to the psych. For what its worth...I believe one of the guys in my junior class in the academy had one of those, he also was one of classes "supervisor" (equiv to a LT) and he also had a job upon graduation from the academy.

Granted...when the academy found out he was stripped of his rank and placed on probation and he was later fired because he couldn't make it through field training. But hey...don't let that discourage you...

Sorry, this would not fly with my department and I think many others accross the nation. An honorable discharge would be required.

In SC, you can have a few moving viols, be gay and divorced; owe money /be bankrupt and don't lie, you wouldn't have to much of a problem. Less then an honorable discharge, forget about it (unless you are having an affair with the Sheriff).
