What do you do with confiscated drugs? Throw them in the trash? Burn them? Keep them forever in case there is a retrial? If you keep a ton of marijuana in an evidence container, does it ever get infested with mutant drug-addicted caterpillars? :eek: Just wondering. :D Those posts about interdiction drug haul stats got me thinking about how much space those tons and tons of marijuana must be taking up somewhere. :p
Once their is no need for the narcotic anymore, evidentiary purposes, it's burned.
Additional to Jenna's thought, would something like a crematorium style incinerator handle things like that while keeping contaminants out of the atmosphere? Just thinking of that toxic waste called Meth.

Actually, Jenna, my understanding is that our property bureau keeps the contraband until the case goes to trial. After trial the officer is usually given a notice asking whether they need the drugs/etc to be stored for any longer... If they are no longer needed they are destroyed at this time. (this is a generalized understanding of the process, as I don't working in the property section... so I'm not sure exactly how things work there behind the scenes).
After all court proceedings have finished we destroy them.
