With all the antibiotic-resistant contagions around recently, I wouldn't be surprised to hear about someone delaying a handshake to pull on rubber gloves first. Or getting the alcohol goop out afterwards...

Spot on. Never shake a crooks hand, but that's really poor form to both embarass and disrespect another officer (even a boss).

That's the reason I generally don't shake hands with men.

Had a guy in my squad (as a Sgt) who was one hell of an Officer (he's now a Sgt), I gave him nothing less than excellent evals ... BUT, yuk was he nasteeee in his habits! Always scratching and digging out the underwear section as a "subconscious" habit.

So, I'm thinking he is either shrink the undies in the dryer or is in need of ointment. One day when having a conversation he starts to digging. I just came out and said, "Would you stop digging in your ass, please."

There was another Officer, in a different squad, who had been given the street name "shittyfingers" by the locals for the same reason.

We also had a female civie, the Office Supervisor, who never washed her hands after using the bathroom. We had separate locker rooms, one for supervisors (police & civie) and one for Officers. Needless to say, we shared the same locker room. I recall myself and another Sgt, both having witnessed this unhygienic behavior putting those push top botanical soap dispensers all around the locker room....she still did not wash her hands.

Then there's the people who publicly dig in their nose and whatnot.
