Thank God that bullcrap doesn't happen in Virginia. The only person calling my pursuit off is my supervisor or me. A Deputy has no higher authority than a Patrolman in Virginia.

In my jurisdiction , a small city within a large county, the Deputies can patrol our city but they don't under agreement between the Sheriff and Chief. We are a separate goverment,agency than the county. We handle our own....even vehicle crashes.

The only we may "hand over" or ask for help in is a vehicle crash involving fatalities. VA. State Police has great crash investigators.

Yeah, I know Florida does things different here. Since we don't have a state police, we are structured totally different.

The only thing I don't like about our setup so far, is that any idiot off the street can run for Sheriff. They don't even have to go through the academy. If they win, they get a uniform, badge, gun, etc...

Not feelin the green....I've seen the khaki uniforms on some deputies that look sharp.

In Virginia a State Trooper has no more authority but they do have more of a jurisdiction.

Same in North Carolina...they just have to be a county resident, and at least 18.
