I work with them on an almost daily basis in my zone. I'll be happy to ask one any specific questions you might have and post the answers back here, (or in PM if you prefer).
Thanks for the reply. Im going to a job fair in Baton Rouge tomorrow and one of the recruiters is going to look my app over.
Im just looking for info on what to study for the written exam, how to prepare for the oral board (not too worried about this because as an NCO in the army i have been to many promotion and competition boards), and overall how long the procees usually takes from application to academy.
I would like to know for the oral board should I wear a suit or wear my class A army uniform.
Thanks in advance for any help.
If by written exam you mean that crazy state civil service test... nothing can prepare you for that... it's absolutely stupid... crazy questions, that have nothing to do with LE work =/ mostly basic knowledge stuff... math, english, science crap... (that's if it's still the PET test) - me and county had to take that for Probation and Parole... dumb...
as far as the oral... no clue =/
hope that helped ya some, good luck
I wouldn't wear the Class A. Let your app speak for you. Long sleeves and perhaps a tie with slacks. Your military record will speak volumes.
Be prepared for the "Why do you want to be a LEO?"
Having been on boths sides of LE interview boards many times, I can tell you that most of the questions are designed for proper methods of responce, judgement, quick thinking under pressure. If you are no longer in the military I would use wearing your class A uniform as a tool to try to make you uncomfortable and gauge the responce. Something like: " I see that even though you are retired, you wore your uniform. Did you think that would impress this board? Explain your reason for wearing it." Nothing personal, just seeing how hard it is to get under your skin. At any rate, I would wear the suit if I were you.
Thanks guys. The LSP recruiter said definitely a suit for the oral board.
Pretty much everything I was told was covered here. No suprises.
No class A's, suit is fine.
Written exam is general knowlege, study an ACT book was advice I was given.
Hiring process usually takes 4-6 months, depending on Academy dates.
