If you could pick your patrol car?

i would be lost without a computer in my car. i can randomly run tags for stolen vehicles, flags, susp registrations, correct make and model all while driving, run people on calls before i go to them, verify all info on traffic stops without having to contact dispatch at all, keep in contact with other officers at all times without tying up air time, we write reports in the vehicle on the computer, the list goes on and on. i dont know how you guys do it without that technloogy at your fingertips.

Yeah it would be nice to be able to do that.

MSP and the Sheriff's department where I live don't have the computer.

At work we just run them through dispatch. Not really a big deal because we don't have a large call volume.

I love the computer in the car!!!! I run all of my licenses, plates and wanted on the computer. I call dispatch when I make the stop/location and when I clear from the stop.

Dodge Charger or Crown Vic. We have impalas and they suck the big one. Underpowered and always break down.

Just curious Darin, do you have GPS-aided dispatching (so the dispatcher can always see where the whole fleet is on a map & send the closest free one to the loction of the next call)?

I've never seen a PD system like that, but I used to work for a company that produced something similar to dispatch repair fleets.

We do. It's tied in to our digital radios.

I can certainly appreciate the assistance/urgent call advantages of this system as I myself fell victim to assistance being delayed due to my location being misunderstood but please people think of the coffee breaks. Wont someone think of the coffee breaks!!!!!!!!

Dallas lost a school bus driver that way a few yesrs ago. Turns out every day after she took the kids to school, she stripped for about 6 hours leaving the bus in the bar's parking lot, then she hopped in and picked the kido's up, then drove it back to the strip joint till about midnight.

Our company's unit may have saved a telephone repair man - Some guy hijacked his truck, cracked his skull almost, and left him in a ditch or something. Luckily, he'd hit his Panic Alarm on his keyfob as he handed his keys over - That started our GPS unit sending continuous tracking data over the cell system, and not only did they find the truck and the hijacker, but they also traced the tracking data back and directed the police along the route till they found the repair man, all in just a few minutes - Pretty cool stuff.

Isnt too many (2 ) in my area but theres one officer whos engaged to be married the sleazy bastard, who is camped outside one of them on every shift. We put calls in for the spot purely to wind him up and he falls for it everytime!

Officer: "Im just around the corner I will take that"

They're on the vehicles only, a small black button on the roof. I find that if you put a metal object (e.g. one of those tin cups that cakes come in) over it it blocks the signal quite nicely

I read a story once about a prisoner with an ankle bracelet monitor that wrapped his leg in tinfoil and escaped home confinement. The tracking device went out of service until he dropped his pants to take a dump, and the tin foil tore off.

You guessed it, they received a location ping from the bracelet before he could get the foil back around his led good and found him still sitting on the toilet in a public restroom

Shoulda used duck tape.

I have given this a lot of thought. I want a UH60 Pave Low Blackhawk, with both an AC 130 and an F18 on runway alert. No one will run from ME ... and live.

Actually, my agency flies UH60's, but without the Pave Low package.
