I have a pair of Rocky boots that I wear while on duty and I love them. I work for a beach police department so they're always getting wet, sandy, and salt all over them and they've always held up. Top notch boots in my opinion...

Danner makes a very high quality boot... Unfortunately it didn't fit my foot very well.
I currently wear Lowa duty boots (Lowa primarily makes high quality hiking/mountaineering boots, and I was familiar with the company from my experiences in those sports).
My boots were around $180, are goretex lined, spit shine perfectly (if you do that sort of stuff), and have lasted me for two full years since I bought them (though the sole is starting to approach the end of it's useful life).

I wear Converse 8-inch side zip boots with the safety toe. They are very comfortable - almost like wearing sneakers. They're a little warm in the summer months and I like to keep the zippers open sometimes for extra ventilation.
I've had mine about a year and a half and have been happy with them, although now some pieces of vinyl trim on the boots are starting to come off.
FYI, I bought them at bootbay.com - Decent prices and (at least when I ordered them) no tax and no shipping charges. They seem to carry about any type of boot imaginable.Never have so many owed so much to so few.

I have had a pair of Danner Acadians for 4 years now. they are a great pair of boots, also Hanwegs are a great boot, made for the German Special Forces, they will be my next pair. Oakley makes a nice light tac boot as well.

Bates Ultra Lite Enforcer Side Zips is what I have now and I love them.

We dallied under
Vine maples and sapling alders
Searched for lady slippers
But instead
Found blackberry riots and
Desiccated branches
An old skid road
Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners
His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion
