I am sure times come up when someone calls the police in regards to their critter. Do you take the call and deal with it or automatically turn it over to animal control and/or fire department (I am thinking cat in tree for fire dept)?
Any funny critter call stories?
Well, I've never had one since animals can't talk...
Or do you mean those ones for hunting? I don't really react to those...

Animals can talk......I have dated a few dogs that wouldn't shut up. :cool:
And I am referring to the cat in the tree, the dog in the hole, the snake in the tub type police calls.
Oh, we don't get calls like that...fire get those...or the dog warden.

If it's after 1600 or on the weekend we have to handle the animal calls. I hate taking animal calls. Yesterday we had a report of a rabid cat on a guys back porch. It was a frozen stiff dead cat.:rolleyes:
I usually respond with:
"Grrrr. Woof Woof. Bark." :D
Seriously, you'd be surprised at the animal calls we get. Bears, mountain lions, dogs, etc. Depending on the animal, and if animal control is on duty, we either call the County Animal Control or we take care of it ourselves.
The dogs in our jurisdiction are very mellow. The bears and lions, however, usually are not. I do have to check it out. I don't want to hurt them, and have never had to, but if it comes down to it, I'm authorized to shoot if a danger exists. If just a sighting, I have dispatch call Dept. of Wildlife and hand it over to them when they arrive.

I approach animal calls with pepper spray or gun in hand :D
Depends on the animal. If wildlife I called Fish and Game, if livestock I carried grain in the car, vicious animals I had a gun, anything else there was animal control.

Oh goodness....animal calls... I have posted this on a few other threads, but we get those calls all the time.. I have had to chase down emus, llamas, horses, cows, etc etc etc...
I have a story that goes along with TXCharlie and the west nile BS!!! I was working at the university, we had a student walking along and found a black bird that was dying. I don't know what was wrong with it, but geez its a bird!!! Anyways, we had to call animal control, they wouldnt come out for it, but told us if it died to dispose of it in a trash bag in the dumpster... So we figured hell we will end its suffering... There was another officer out with me and I handed him the tire iron out of the back of my car, not thinking that he would really use it... I turned away for a second and then I heard this god awful noise. That was the birds last breath/ sound....I felt bad, but hey it didnt suffer any more..
Our animal control does absolutely nothing here, I do not know why we have them. We go out first and try to deal with the situation the best we can.
Our animal control division out of the sheriff's office are great. Very overextended and overworked, and do a fantastic job.
They get to chase down the cows, bears, etc, etc. :D
thank god i live in the uk , we dont really have dangerous animals roaming wild .
