We have the smaller monodonocks, and I hate them.
The thing is too long to one-hand (like a SAP), and too short to two-hand (like a baton). Nearly everyone I know stopped carrying them around here, except for the Tacti-cool guys who carry EVERYTHING!
But, we also have the SAP as an alternative. The new class fresh out of the academy were issued a longer expandable baton, and everyone seems to like it better.

I've got the 16", but prefer to use pepper or taser. I have to re-arrange my belt now to fit the taser though.
One plus thing my Sgt. taught me using the asp closed as a kubaton, which is something I hadn't used in years.

One night we had this discussion at a local PD. I have my dept.'s 26 in. ASP and an officer had the 16 in. "shortie". A dispatcher wanted to see them for some reason and before you knew it she blurted out "Yours is SO BIG! Why is yours so much bigger than his?" Needless to say my ears turned red, I bit my tongue and everyone started laughing.
