Wow,you all still have the rotating lights? Around here, they are hard to find parts for. most departments junked them, and went with strobes.

Our fleet is mostly StreetHawks. They arent made for Intrepids and Impalas, but they have been paid for for 20 years now! Cheap bastards.

I remember the old twinsonics. We used all blue ones when I was an MP stationed in Germany back in 86-88. Those things sucked. What sucked even worse were those motorola covertacoms we had also.

Motorola convertacoms... great impact weapons, but of course I personally never used one as such.

Blue to the front with white "Take down" lights.

Blue and red to rear(Either can be deselcted)if you are on scene and its just routine and you don't want too many people rubbernecking then you deselect the rear blues. People don't slow as much for just the reds.
On the motorway when at a scene only rear facing lights are illuminated as it stops the other carriageway rubbernecking .

Alley lights left and right.

Blue strobes to each corner, a dash master blue strobe in the front screen and blue strobes on the radiator grille.

The days of no, or very poor portable radios. Mic was hung on the bar so you could use your radio outside the car. Was a fine substitute for letting the mic hang out the window when out of the car.

Red to the passenger side, blue to the off side.

Used to be Whelen strobe bars, now almost all LED bars with strobes in the four corners of the car.

In IL police lights are any combo of red, white and blue....except in Chicago where all lights are blue.

Interestingly enough, that isn't a Streethawk, its a "Vista", multi-level lightbar introduced by Federal Signal in the late 90's. It is an easy mistake to make, especially for a rookie.

The Dashlasers were taken out of mothballs (I had them stored in the attic) when I came back to public service after a well-deserved) 8-year break. I always loved the Dashlasers because of the durability and sheer visibility of the multi-flash pattern.

The LED traffic advisor is the newest addition to the car, included especially for motorists who need clearer instructions to move over when I'm on the side of the road.

In the dark, it looks like a Streethawk, but once you said Vista, I can see it. The Dashlaser's do put off a lot of light especially if you have the mirror attachment. Had one in my 92 s10 Agg Blazer. I once drove a Diplomat for a week with a Twinsonic on it, while my CV was down for repairs. That damm lightbar was bigger than the car almost. What a airbrake due to the size and lack of aerodynamics, not that a Diplomat was a race car or known for its handling. Just seeing those lights brought back some memories

While my current vehicle is NOT a cruiser... It's got a red & blue visor light.

Our cruisers have all blue.

Nah, usually we just had to slap the dome and they'd start turning again.

We would just roll the window down, reach up, and KNOCK THE CRAPOLA OUT OF IT! (Worked MOST of the time.) (Well - - SOMEtimes.)

It was red when I started in the 60's. I think it was sometime in the 70's that law enforcement was designated blue, fire&ambulance red.
We all run white strobes with the appropriate color.

The first one I used looked like a coffee pot mounted on it's side top center of the car with a large lens in the front and a smaller one in the rear. The siren was incorporated in with the light. There were no side lights at all. Man have we all come a long way, you can see those blue strobes or leds a mile away on the open road.
