Would you let some one buy your meal ?
Just curious if after you had just finished a meal a citizen came up & thanked you for all you do then offerd to pay the bill would you accept ?
Please stay safe in all you do, also know I pray for each of you daily. Thank you for all you do. On Twitter at

No. It just doesn't feel right. Why pick me out to thank cops in general? I'd ask them to donate the cost of the meal to a police charity.

People here dont give you the option. If theyre gonna pay for it, its already done by the time you get to the register.
Do you want me to get naked and start the revolution?

As nice as a gesture that it is, what happens if some time down the road you pull that citizen over for say driving under the influence, or show up at his house for a domestic? I would not want to be in a position where I feel like I owe it to the guy just because he paid my bill at some point in time. I would not feel very professional, nor would it seem ethical..in my opinion that is.
Is that a banana in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?????

I wouldnt feel shit but happiness at taking them to jail. I can not be bought, and I despise anyone who thinks otherwise. I never ever ask for free shit when people know I'm a cop(if i'm off duty in civies and noone knows me, I ask for free shit all the time
). I always have cash/credit out and ready to pay at the register. If someone's already gotten it, then Ill put the equivalent into whatever charity fund is sitting there. And always, always tip the shit out of the waitress.
Not much you can do if someone beats you to the check. If they expect quid pro quo.... fuck 'em.Do you want me to get naked and start the revolution?

About a month after 9/11, I was standing in line to pay my bill when the guy behind me struck up a conversation and before I could say licketysplit, he snatched the bill out of my hands and said "I'll take care of this. Thanks." I didn't argue with him.

With a citizen you never know if they're dating the uniform or the person wearing it... although.. I guess there are holster sniffers with a badge too.

03-05-06, 11:05 PM #18I do the same thing. I dont take free coffee or anything else, If someone has paid or refuses to take my money I will always leave the amount for the waitress or Something. I dont feel right that people think they are your buddy cause they bought you lunch. Now if it was my buddy or co worker hell ill let them pay anytime

I agree with most of the above and would rather Thank them and then say, 'No Thank you!' Most of the areas and ppl we work amongst are definitely NOT the type to pay the bill but some restaurants have a policy of discounts or free meals and those I ONLY go once a week or less as to NOT abuse the privilege. VERY FEW ever give discounts or freebies anymore as compared to many years ago when you couldn't go into a restaurant and try to pay for them, then they would have been offended. In the early 70s while patrolling my beat on Xmas I had everything from fruit baskets, hams, turkeys, cash, booze and even furniture neatly placed into my police car when parked at the curb but I NEVER walked out with any gratuity. In those days, we had GREAT christmas's !! You all take care and be safe !!
