I was intending to apply next time the local Sheriffs Dept opened up deputy sheriff or jailer positions. However, I recently was involved in a minor vehicle accident (under 1k in damage therefore non-reportable under WI law). Investigation officer found I was at fault but didn't issue a citation.
I've never been through the application process and don't know if they even ask about accidents. Does anyone know just how badly this would reflect on me. Should I sit out a round maybe?

If you are applying in our county, I dont think they ask if you have or were in any accidents. There is a section for traffic citations and criminal offenses, but you are in the clear unless you been pinched on something else.
Plus they are not accidents anymore, they are traffic crashes :D

Be honest about it - mistakes happen.
Shouldn't be a problem.
If that's the worst thing in your background, you'll have no problems. Hell, you'll probably crash a police car or two and be at fault during your career.
Multiple crashes or extinuating circumstances, like reckless driving would be different, but that's why they call them "accidents". Good luck in your application.
Hell, I rear-ended another cop car a couple of years ago...to echo what everyone else is saying, it's not a big enough deal to wait through another round. Good luck with the app. process!!!Quote:

Thanks guys. The responding officer actually told me he had been in an accident with the cruiser last year. And as for getting pinched elsewhere...had a speeding ticket in 07 and one in 04, should be okay there
