What type of licensing/requirements/education/certifications/etc does your state require to be a licensed police officer?
HS diploma or GED and must pass a POST certified basic law enforcement academy, whether state-run or accredited local academy.
High school diploma/GED and a Police Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) approved academy.
Diploma/GED and complete B.L.E.T. (Basic Law Enforcement Training). This can be by any community college (state run) or a department ran academy.
Most departments here require a High School education and either 2 years worth of college credits (not necessarily a degree) or military service.
There are the min. requirements, but lots of luck getting hired here with those. Military experience/prior experience or college in addition to the min. standards for even a chance.
State Academy and at least a HS diploma or GED.
2 year degree
Ohio requires High School/GED and the State run academy.
Minimum is HS Diploma or equivalent (GED), and completion of the approved course of instruction at an academy. The minimum standards are governed by the state Department of Criminal Justice Services, based on what the legislature mandates as well as their own standards board's assessments.
Minimum requirement is a HS diploma and agency run academy, but the only agencies left that run academies are the state police and maybe Detroit. Otherwise, you have to go to a college run academy that will require an Associate's degree.
High School and state run academy. You get your higher leverl certificates sooner the more college you have.
I said State-Run academy for Texas, but I think it can be privately-run also, as long as it's state-certified. A lot of community colleges offer them. You probably need to have a High School education to get into the Academy, but not sure about that.
Then of course there's a state-administered TCLEOSE written test after you graduate from the academy.
College is optional, but a lot of departments require 4 years of college (some departments will waive the college requirement if you have military service or prior police experience).
Some departments require new recruits to attend their academy rather than a college academy, but again, it depends on the department.
