Fake police report identification request
This police report was posted on a certain forum. I would like to know if it's fake or not.

Well you need to provide more information. We also like new members to post an intro with a little bit about yourself.
Why do you think this is fake?
How are you involved in the incident in question?
The above are just for starters. This being your first post looks touch suspicious.

I joined here for the sole purpose of trying to contact some real US police officers who could verify the authenticity of that report. I mean if if it's a poor forgery, a real officer should be able to tell that straight off.
Basically it's about some dude boasting on a forum how he kicked some criminal's ass. He sent this report as piece of evidence from his actions and it would be nice to know if the story is true. If someone here is a real policeman he should be able to tell if something is missing from that report pretty quickly.

Why don't you call the agency and give them the case/complaint number and just ask? What forum is this from? Link to the thread?

There's really no way we could tell you just from the snapshot you provided. Reports look different from department to department. The only sure way to find out is to call the department on the report.

It's simply not that easy. There are over 12000 police departments in the US. While there are some commonalities, there are a lot of differences in report writing between each agency, too. Each of the verified officers on this forum could probably be given the same set of facts, and produce surprisingly different looking reports using their agencies report manual/system. So, unless there's something incredibly obvious -- we can't simply look at an edited report and confirm it's validity.
Contact the agency in question. Do a FOIA request if it's important enough to you.Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

I will probably hate myself for this, and I would like to state I have had about 4 hours sleep in the past 36,so here goes. From what I could see,the narrative(unblocked parts) and actions etc look legit, for the most part.Where I have a problem is the report number.Report numbers are issued, for the most part to include the month/year of the report. If this dept adheres to this the "C" at the begininng ,would lead me to beleive it was filed in March, and not May as posted.BUT,as posted above, diffrent strokes fer diffrent folks(I know it is misspelled, intentionally).,goo d night.

There's also no ORI number (Originating agency number), or it has been whited out. Most police reports, I believe, are supposed to have an ORI number somewhere on the page.

Looks fake to me for a few reasons: (1) For a report taken in 2012, the spacing of the words, punctuation etc looks horrible like it was written on an old typewriter. Even the smallest departments in today's world have computers. (2) Why is it a county report with evidence and photos being sent to the PD? (3) We all run our case numbers differently, but for a LEO, they aren't that hard to figure out, this one looks bizarre to me.
But again, as it has been mentioned many times already, each dept has different report formats, and different general appearance. Heck, our reports look nothing like a report, so I guess it could also be legit. If curiosity is really killing the cat, as recommended earlier, contact the jurisdiction with the case number and ask them to verify it."That's how we roll"

That is THE shortest report I have ever read that involves those types of crimes. I say fake. There is no articulation, witness statements, mention of evidence. The grammer/spelling is also terrible. I find it hard to believe a Supervisor would let something like that through. I agree with the other Officer's statements. The only way to confirm whether it's real or fake is contact the agency that filed the report.
Also, for something like this to have occurred two days ago, I don't see how it could get in the hands of a civilian. By this time it's usually just getting to the DA's Office.Last edited by abom334; 05-31-12 at 01:05 AM. Reason: added content

An assault with shots fired only took an hour to investigate and close out. Now that's what I call speedy police work.

I say Fake. Appears the form was created on a poor functioning manual typewriter and the lines defining the data boxes at the top are of uneven width and density. The form typeface is same as the caps used in the body of the report. There is no certification on the report.
