We had a new dispatcher one day, with no prior related experience, so no experience with phonetic alphabets. I slipped one day and called a tag is is "Sierra Foxtrot Alpha 1234" or the like... She figured out the Sierra = S pretty well, but wasn't sure if I meant F-T or F with Foxtrot!
Thread moved to Ask-A-Cop
We had an officer who wasn't the brightest crayon in the box. If we didn't know the phonetic immediately, we just use a word that started with the letter.
Well, this guy... he's used words like "N knife" and "Z Xylophone".
He also was out on a wreck one time and called for an ambulance and stated "The driver is subconscious at this time."
Bless his heart.

Well done Xiphos, the only sane one here. Bunch of weirdos. ;)
Military alphabet here. Just makes sense considering we talk to the FAA Control Tower once in a while when we need to cross runways.
I used A= "Animal Crackers" once with a new dispatcher.
I thought her head was going to explode.
Way back when, when we called in all names for D.L.'s I stopped a Hmong named something like "Xiongxiphong. " I tried to pronounce it and told the dispatceher, "Common spelling." She was not amused.
Keith what is a D.L?
