One of the hardest things of my job as a SRO (School Resource Officer) is dealing with the no balls administration we have here. The 2 adminstrators at my school are males and I'm female. I scare the kids more with just yelling at them or watching them than the principal and assistant principal. The kids respect me, but do not respect them. They would rather get sent to the principal's office than to mine. Even though I can not issue school discipline, they still don't like to be sent in here by a teacher, because they know I will remember them and watch them.
The admin has changed here during the middle of the year. I worked with 2 great men at the start of the school year. If kids got into fights, I took them in, If kids were passing things around saying they were drugs, I took them in, If kids were bullying or sexual harassment, I took them in. Now the admin would rather handle everything in house and put themselves in a bind for lawsuits. I am not happy here now and am looking to move schools next year!!
Telling a partner/parent that their loved one has died.
Definitely having to tell someone of a loved one's passing. Especially if it was a child....pretty rough!Quote:

I think JMUR hit the nerve for me. I think the worse times was when I had to either tend to or assit on an injured child or report it to the family. A few times I did this at the hospitals on calls I recieved from abused kids or accidents. It is a heart wrenching situation !!
I also agree with Safety first that responding to a resident to inform a family member of the passing is a rough job and no one wants it.
I don't think the crying about ones job or equipment is needed on this subject but the officers concerned should become involved within there legal organization in changing the depts policies or standards...

As others have said anything dealing with children.
Realizing just how inhuman some people can be. The kiddy porn guys who buy and sell children to be used for sex (as young as 5), the folks smuggling phoney cancer cures to take every last penny from the dieing, the people who make phoney drugs in Mexico to steal from the poor elderly folks who think they are saving money (we found a lot of these with rat posion included).

Agreed on children, or crappy parents when their children are around. Also the fuckton of paperwork that I somehow never seem to get caught up with.

There are so many "hard things" about the LE career. Other most of which have been pointed out. The problem I have is how the job effects my family life. Being able to set aside the shooting, pursuit, mangled body, rapped 3 yr old before you go home is more then difficult -- practically impossible for some.
Luckly - my family is understanding (or tollerant) and I have been fortunate enough NOT to fall victim to substance abuse. However, I would be a fool to say that my job doesnt effect my demeanor at home.
One thing not mentioned is the chemical exposure that some deal with. I cant count the number of meth labs I delt with without any protection. Lord only knows what effects that will cause.
