How common is it that.....
.....a drunk rear-ends you..... while pulling over another drunk?
That happened to a state trooper and myself last weekend while I was on a ride-along. Please don't tell me it's just me and my bad karma....

In my department of 220 odd deputies at least 3 were involved in accidents where someone rearended them.

That has happened to a couple of units here in the past few months...One CV burst into flames and burned the Officer pretty bad. Seems like you hear about it happening somewhere in the US all the time!

I once locked up a drunk driver...and en-route to the station stopped a motorist that was swerving in and out of his lane....and found him to be drunk too...
2 x drink drivers on one journey.....I've never beaten that...'The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil,
but because of those who look on and do nothing.'

Seriously, when I ride I can make an entire county that has been hopping all day, and take it to a dead silence, you know the crickets and everything. With my sheriffs department, I've ridden over 200 hours, I've been on 4 calls.

That always happened to me when I was with the fire department here. I would be at the station for six hours and NOTHING. 30 minutes after I leave I see an engine rolling out.
I usually find excitement when I'm with the police.
Come here and ride with an officer from the Northeast Precinct... they are NEVER bored.

06-22-06, 02:29 PM #13Actually, it happens alot. The DUI focuses on your blue lights and then drives to where their eyes are focused. We had an officer in my department that was struck from behind and killed by a DUI when he had someone pulled over for DUI.

We have a rule to use flashing rear RED LEDs only during stops on hard shoulders....for that reason..
Apparently, they are less likely to 'induce' a driver towards them than blue lights..'The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil,
but because of those who look on and do nothing.'

We had this very same thing happen out here in Cali just a few months ago.

What is really sad is the CHP has lost 6 officers in 7 months. RIP Gentlemen.
