If you drive a police cruiser, I'm curious what sort of equipment (and possible non-equipment) you keep in your trunk.
And, if it's an unusual item, I'd be curious as to why.

I suspect they keep bodies in their trunks. :p
I keep my wife there.
Silly me............ I saw the title of this thread and was automatically thinking naughty thoughts.
I've been around Gozzy too much :D
Rubber gloves; a cover-all suit (water proof); big rubber boots; two large tarps; several large garbage bags; two rolls of duct tape; some rope; a cordless Sawzall or at least a good hatchet or hacksaw; three cinder blocks; 2 gallons of bleach; 5 gallons of gasoline; a road flare; bar of soap; change of clothes including shoes.
Oh you said Police Car, ummm, never mind.
I keep a grenade launcher and machine gun in my caboose..... :D
Suddenly I'm thinking of the silhouette scene from Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.
A cup of tea and cucumber sandwiches.
in the trunk all kinds of things to process a crime scene, complete bio suit, stuff to clean my car, extra water, a cooler with snacks and drinks, extra boots, socks, bullistic vests, traffic vests, rain gear.......could go on for a long time........inside the car also have a scanner, 800 radio, 400 radio, and a cb.
Too much stuff to list.
I'd say "everything but the kitchen sink" but there is a gallon of water back there, so that's close enough.
theres a trunk
Flares, fire exstinguisher, flotation device even though the nearest body of water is a STREAM, more flares, slimjim, more ammo, blanket I wouldnt use let a homeless person use, a bio-hazard suit {not the band either},
What would I LIKE to keep back there? My freakin douche LT. and his butt buddy Sgt Wet mop...
Things I have found in the truck of our cruisers:
- A Playboy magazine.
- Other type magazines that I can't list here. (OK- I'll fess up- GQ, Newsweek, and other bad publications)
- About 200 ft of Crime Scene tape bundled up in a heap after being recovered from a site where it shouldn't have been used in the first place.
- Numerous empty soda cans, water bottles, iced tea bottles.
- One bloody blanket.
- Eighteen empty shell casings. I found those about a week after one of the officers asked me for a fresh box of duty ammo. :tape:
- A set of old brake pads.
- A copy of the department manual that had been defaced with rather obsence language (we figured out that was left by a retiring officer).
- A set of deer antlers.
- A bag containing statements taken from various incidents that had never been filed. Again from a retiiring officer who was a bit shaky about filing stuff his last year or so.
- Eleven cans of "skunk beer". Someone took them and tossed them in the trunk and they were there all summer. Trust me, it was skunk beer!
- A beer tap- no idea where it came from.
- A car battery- that was a good find since it was leaking and had just about ate a hole through the trunk and was about ready to work on the gas tank.
One of the best finds was a beat-up plastic bag containing about 25 T-shirts. I can't remember what the logo was on the shirts. The T-shirts were quite dirty from having been in the truck and I took them for other things. Since no one claimed them, I took them to use on targets for the range. After we spent three days of range qual shooting them, my (now former) Chief showed up and asked what I was doing with them. I told him we were shooting them. I went on to start to explain that shooting targets with T-shirts on them gave a more realistic target. He got pissed. It turned out he gave one of the officers the bag to bring to the PD for him and had forgotten about them. So did the officer.
I got big kudos for that encounter. My response was simple- I said "Oops".
My trunk is pretty ordinary:
My dress hat (the bus drivers one)
My rain gear
Spare Tire/Jack
Large plastic box with crime scene equipment: tape, suits, gloves etc..
M-40 protective mask with MOPP suit (MOPP=mission oriented protective posture suit...a charcoal suit to protect against gas and nerve agents)
Gear bag with extra copies of reports, forms and manuals for the Breathalyzier, Crash Reports and Crime Scene stuff.
I try to keep my trunk as clean as possible because we often get civilian riders and I have to be able to move my gear from the front to the trunk.
A trunk monkey.
