Someone is Trying to Be Me!! Please help!!

I have just experienced a problem with my children's father. His new wife has called my children's insurance carrier and taken my name off of all records. When I called to find out what was going on they told me that I was no longer listed as a parent and she was listed as the mother.

My children just went back to school. The school did not contact me for parent teacher conferences because my name was taken out of the computer. I was no longer listed as a parent.... she was.

I went to my children's doctor's office to get a physical for one of my children. I could not access any information because my information was taken out and I was no longer listed as a parent. New people in the office had no way of knowing who I was. It just looked like the wife was the mother because she carries his last name.

Is this a police matter? I have constantly asked the father, who I have joint custody with, if this could stop. He told me she is their step mother now and has all the same rights to the kids records. Even if it deletes me form every system? We have joint custody. I have the kids 20 days out of the month and he has them 10.

In my opinion, I believe this is a civil matter. I suggest you get an attorney.

I don't really see it being a police matter unless his new wife stole your identity, but in this case based on your information, i don't see it being a police matter

Try this site on tips to protect yourself from identity theft. But as it stands right now, it sounds like a civil matter.

If you need help finding an attourny, I recommend this site. Can you tell I listen to talk radio? :)

If the insurance company, schools, etc made changes to your file or account without verifying who they were talking to, it sounds to me like you may have a good case against them as well as the lady who was posing as you. I'd run it by a lawyer, though.

With the doctor's office and schools you may want to bring in a copy of the birth certificates, your divorce decree, and your ID. The combination should be enough to correct any problems. The insurance carrier may be a bit trickier, I'd call their customer service department and ask them what the next step should be, I'm sure you're not the only one who has been through this. Additionally, you will want to contact a lawyer who is in family law.

Just my .02 from having been through a nasty divorce myself.

Unless a Court has terminated your parental rights......you are still their parent. Your divorce attorney should be made aware of this.

Sounds like a good ass kickin is in the making. But if you want to do it legal then get an attorney. This i'm sure will piss the judge off. Now if the step tramp signed your name to anything then you have a criminal case and call the Police.

Ehh.... Baby-momma drama. Sounds like a civil matter to me.

It may be civil but I went through almost the same thing. Yeah go to civil court and fight the proper way but if that don't work just get someone to kick the skanks sorry ass butt. (Sound mean or what but it does work)

Wouldn't you know as soon as I posted that and than went on with my life and thought about it, it made sense to me, but hey thanks for the help :)

Yep def. civil matter, unless she is trying to commit fraud with your name.

Having gone through a divorce and my kids having a step-mom, I can tell you this. Unless one of the parents signed away their parental rights, its still you and your former spouse that share the rights responsiblity.

Step parents may share their lives with the kids, but have no say over the rights of the kids to include doctor's, schools etc. My exwife tried something similar with me a few years ago and all it took was a call from my attorney to hers and that stuff was stopped quick.
