Yeah, I agree that a one time bonus would be worthless - I proposed an annual bonus if the officer or fireman has lived in the Town for a full calendar year. Next year I think I'm gonna repeat the request a little earlier in the budget cycle.
In your area it's earthquakes, and in our area it's tornados, plus a potential airliner crash since we're in the takeoff/landing path of DFW airport... No matter where you go, it's always something

My city has a policy that you can have a take home car only if you live within five miles of the city. If you don't, then you have to leave your car at the PD or somewhere in town where the car won't be bothered. Other than that, you can pretty much live where you want.

I am assigned 2 counties and live in one of them. I have a take home car but have my on policy that unless its something really bad ( felony etc. ) I don't police my neighborhood. Its not a bad neighborhood its a small community way out in the country. The same one I grew up in.

Nope. Not only do I not live in the city I work for, I don't even live in the same county.
I used to (free apartment) but I got real tired of seeing people I had arrested when I was off duty and grocery shopping.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

My county is made up of 3 towns, 1 city and many villages.

I live in the town I work in. If the guy I want to win gets elected Sheriff in a few weeks, I wont have to move to make the switch to the SO, since I'll be the Deputy in charge of this area of the county.

I don't live in the city where I work. I wouldn't live there for any amount of money, because the crime rate continues to rise and the neighborhoods continually go down hill. Also, I like to take a break from the city and live in the quiet countryside.
