Ankle Backup
Is it standard operating procedure for police officers to have a backup gun in an ankle holster?
If so, does it make you walk funny? Do you get used to it and change walking styles? And then when you're not wearing the backup, do you walk funny again because you've already compensated for it?
Which ankle do you wear it on? Would you wear it on the opposite side of your duty gun - to balance it out?
In ankle holsters, are the guns positioned on the inside or the outside?
Do these backup guns tend to be smaller than duty guns?
Would it be smarter to have it on your kicking leg? I would think that the added weight would add force to the kick.
Thank you. This is something I've always been curious about but didn't remember until my friend broke her ankle and has been walking around on crutches with this huge cast on.

This is a type of question that should not be answered. This is an officer safety issue.

I walk funny without my backup gun. I put a rock in one shoe to balance the knee pain on the other leg.

Ah Rookie, remember, DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL. The truth can hurt.

yeah, these questions seem pretty suspicious...
do all cops have ankle guns...
exactly where would you keep your ankle gun...
would your walk reveal it's presence...
when you take it off, would your walk falsely indicate it's still there...
if you kick someone, would you do it with the foot that has a gun on it...
pretty sensetive info you're asking for, sully...SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING:

I keep a knife on my ankle...........as I like to feel people die and the very life blood leaves there body

I have two guys on my flanks with the .50 cal sniper rifles for backup. Just like in the new Miami Vice movie. If they catch you patting down my ankles without me noticing they are going to cut you half. Just alittle heads up.

If you carefully read the TOS of this website it clearly states that LEO's on this site will not discuss any officer safety related issues.
So guess what we are not going to talk about this issue because well its a need to know thing and you just don't need to know. You are the weakest link good-bye.

Oh yeah FYI I am the one that put you in the red

Apologies
I'm very sorry.
It wasn't my intention to violate any terms of service.
I am curious by nature and just ask questions that come to mind.
I see a lot on movies and television and am
curious as to the veracity of the depictions.
As a non-LEO sometimes I don't know what's a
security-related question and what isn't.
But from this warning, I will take greater care in the future
to ensure that my questions do not reference firearms.
Again, my apologies.

I think I once saw Sonny Crocket carry a full size 45 on his ankle. But that was back in the 80s (or maybe it was the 90s, I forget)...anyway, the space-time continuum was a little different back then and they could get away with stuff like that.
