Just to show you how things change, when I took an oral interview to join a specialized unit on LAPD in 1979, they asked me if I would ever use my "kel-light" (precurser to the streamlight) to hit someone to protect myself. I answered of course I would if I thought my partner or I was going to get hurt. The Lt and Sgts just smiled and I got the job. Now LAPD is making the coppers carry dinky little plastic flashlights because an officer defended himself. Oh the times are a changin'
