What do you mean, "real criminals?"

A lot of states don't have "infractions" when dealing with traffic. In some states, a traffic violation is a crime and subject to arrest. I can remember in SC years ago, you paid the traffic fine on the spot or when to jail. Typically that was the Highway Patrol, but, some departments also had this policy. Also, in SC, violation of a traffic law (state statue) the punichment is fine or JAIL, So, violating a traffic law is a crime here.

I once had a guy give me that line on a stop. I told him that I catch a lot of "real" criminals on traffic stops, a lot of times people with warrants.

He made a "pfft" sound and said I was lying, and that I don't get wanted people by stopping them for what I pulled him over for. Like it was scripted, the dispatcher broadcasted that he had a FTA. I laughed all the way to jail.
