What is the worst thing you've ever personally seen a police officer do?
A cop gave me a dirty look, sighed, rolled his eyes, and very rudely answered me when I asked him how to get to the highway when I was lost in a major (heavy crime) city that I'd never previously visited. The signage in the city was non-existent, this was before GPS units were available, I was polite, I was in a car with out-of-state license plates, it was starting to get dark, and I was alone. I know that police officers aren't tour guides, and if there had been someone else to ask or a business in the area that I could have gone into for directions, I would have. He was just plain rude and nasty, but I remained polite and thanked him for his help. That's the only negative experience I've ever had with law enforcement.

Just kidding. Preventing a potential crime is just as important as solving one even if the prevention is safer directions. It is also a public service if we can truly make someone feel more secure even if it is just directions.

I won't name the city because I understand that one individual is not representative of an entire group, and who knows what else he'd had to deal with that day. But honestly, it was really surprising to me because I'd never ever been spoken to like that when I've had to ask a police officer for help. And I'd never had to ask one for directions before.
I had the same incident in 1998 in KY. A female dispatcher and I were sent to Cincinnati to pick up a prisoner and were told to find a hotel when we got there. We happened across the brige into Kentucky and flagged down a KY PD officer. We were in a marked but not marked detective crown vic complete with blue dash light. I asked where could I find a decent place to stay....he just yelled "ohh...get back out by the interstate" and drove off. I wound up finding a Cincinnati officer who was super nice and told me where a good place would be. Apparently I ran into a guy having a bad day in KY.Quote:

Taking their safety for granted.
Can't think of anything else that stands out in my mind other than officer safety.
I had a sergeant I had worked with over the years commit arson and then murder to cover it up. He is currently doing life in segregation.

Cop from my old PD committed DUI/Hit and Run, left his bleeding girlfriend in the car to fend for herself while he hot footed. Then had his retired FF dad obstruct the investigation. Finally turned himself in, posted a bond, then committed sex assault less than a week later.
when i was 18 or 19 i was sitting in my car outside my gfs house with her talking when an officer pulled up. he said we looked like we were up to no good. i could see where he was coming from so i was extremely polite about the situation. when he asked to search the vehicle i let him without a problem. while him and the other officers are walking away he reaches into my pack of cigarettes, takes one and says thanks. i wasnt mad i thought it was quit funny accually. but it was unprofessional, if he has no problem takin a cigarette he must not have a problem taking other things. all he had to do was ask. lol

i see where your coming from. hes a il state police commander in the chicago district. he asked us if we were offered a million dollar bribe would we take it? then he continued with if you had to think about it you most likely would. and if you would because "its a million dollars" then you would for much much lessQuote:

While working as a Deputy in the jail we had an officer who routinely slept on duty. Didn't matter if the inmates were out of their cells or what time of day it was she would get on duty and then go to sleep. It was well known throughout the jail that she did this and she did it on camera constantly. She was promoted to Sgt about a year or so ago from what I have been told.

As time went by we got used to the "carnival" next door. One day it was unusually violent. They were throwing the son's bicycle at each other inside the house. We called again. The officer told them we were the ones that called. Two of my truck windows were shot out shortly after that.

Cops have sold their soul for a cup of coffee or a free ticket to the movies. An OLD cop (with close to 40 yrs on the job) told me everyone has a price. Just hope they don't get to your price.
