Charging Emergency Response Fees

I was talking about this with a couple guys the other night. We have several mouth breathers who call in nonsense regularly.

My fix was to charge $25 each time 911 is called. Once we get there, if we determine that it was worthy of a 911 response, we either a) hand you a card to mail to the city and its dismissed or b) have the dispatchers note that it was a legitimate call. We already give the callers a card to get a copy of the report

I too have a problem with this. As soon as someone dies or his seriously because someone was afraid to call 911, I promise you the program would be scrapped.

My paycheck is the same every 2 weeks. Whether I answer 1 call or 100.

In my opinion answering BS calls is as much part of this job as handcuffs and blue lights.

I agree to a point. The problem I have is in our county, we usually have only 2 or 3 deputies on at a time. Is it fair or logical to have to go to repetative bogus 9-1-1 calls and tie up one or two officers, when something else is going on? There are times where we are too busy, and a complainant may have to wait an hour or two before we can get there.
