Southern Poverty Law Center
Does anyone here get the intelligence report from SPLC? What are your thoughts on the group? I found it interesting that they receive no government funds and do not accept court awarded judgements. Do you think that they are overly broad in their classification of hate groups or spot on?

I was a long-time subscriber and received it regularly until I retired a few months ago. I even attended some of the classes they put on. In my opinion, they paint a broad brush on ANYTHING that is not liberal-ACLU oriented. My opinion is that are a left-wing pro-socialist/Marxist organization that attempts to spew hate among its readers. My fellow officers that read it tend to agree, although some were more vocal then I. I think it has a purpose; to let you know what your enemy is up to, otherwise it is trash. My opinion was asked, I gave it.

Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

I agree that they are way too far out as to what they label as "Hate Groups." Their definition is any organization that isn't politically corrrect and doesn't share their ideology.
For the morning will come. Brightly will it shine on the brave and true, kindly upon all who suffer for the cause, glorious upon the tombs of heroes. Thus will shine the dawn.

Just like the ADL -- recognize they have a certain bias, and come from a certain point of view. I actually prefer the ADL because they are more specific (in my experience & opinion) on what they put out -- but the SPLC also has good information.

Like anything use them like you would use any tool. That organization isn't a magic bullet and I am sometimes suspect of their agenda. But the intell can be useful. Better than running around totally ignorant of what some of the fringe groups are doing.
