The way we write it here is generally "yellow metal" or "white metal" chain/ring/etc.

Wrong. We spell so many things so much more efficiently. You snobby Brits just leave extra useless letters in words... and only pronounce them sometimes, like Alumin-ee-um (which is properly spelled without the stuck-up letter i, thusly: aluminum.)

I was just thinking, because we DID win the war, shouldn't the phrase be "Proper American," rather than "Proper English?"

Sorry Keith, that win doesn't count. It should have been the war of 1774, but you turned up 2 years late, as usual, and we'd all gone home.

( And nice signature, too. )

Whether you quit, ran home, or surrendered, WE WON!

The quote was from a radio address that Churchill made to the people of France after Dunkirk, I believe.

It doesn't so much bother me as it does you to say shortly later, but it does sound goofy. As for the "in color", I try to say blue toyota corolla, but sometimes I forget to put the color in front like that. Therefore, I will sometimes say a toyota corolla, blue in color, just so I don't have to make a white out correction. Our supervisors don't care as long as you get the info in.
YOUR ATTENTION, DO I F@#%ING HAVE IT?
