The police know which pubs they congregate in, and even which buses and trains they are likely to take when traveling to away games. “If we want to go and confront the risk supporters, we can go and occupy their pub,” Holt said. The police can also issue so-called banning orders, which make it illegal for violent fans to go anywhere near their teams’ stadium on match days. Most banning orders last for five years; there are currently some 2,500 in effect in England. The orders have proved particularly effective when teams play abroad. Holt compared the levels of security used to keep violent fans from leaving the country to the layers of an onion, with each layer being more stringent. Some fans are required to turn in their passports; others have to report in person to their local police station during the match. In some cases, the police alert immigration authorities at major exit ports to look out for the miscreants “in case they try to use their brother’s passport,” he said. The police also sometimes bar busloads of away fans from stopping on the highway on the way to the match, to ensure that they drink less and all come as a supervised group. They can, and often do, require fans sitting in the away section — typically filling about 5 percent to 15 percent of the seats in a stadium — to wait until the rest of the stadium is cleared, postmatch, before leaving their seats. They can meet trainloads of supporters at the train and subway stations and escort them to the match. And in extreme situations, they can put the away fans in a “bubble,” meaning they are under guard from the moment they leave their hometowns to the moment they return. This happened recently in a match between Hull City and Huddersfield Town, where the only way for the away Hull fans to get tickets was to travel on special buses under tight supervision.

I'm going to post this in both the public and verified sections; there are some aspects that I suspect people may be more comfortable discussing securely -- but the general incident is worth open discussion, too.

In brief, based on the article, officers from Nassau County PD responded to a home invasion. A masked intruder, later identified as Dalton Smith, was holding Andrea Rebello in a headlock, with a gun to her head and threatening to shoot her. Smith eventually turns the gun towards the police, who fire on him. The police fire several shots, and one of them hits her in the head, killing her. There's nothing that I see as suggestive of any cover-up attempt by the police; among other things, the commissioner went in person to notify the girl's parents. Full article here

My thoughts -- there's a lot I don't know about from the article. I think the officer was faced with an incredibly challenging situation and responded in the best way he thought he could. I hope that he's receiving the public and private support from his agency and community that he deserves.

Hey , Jenna , your usually Johnny on the spot posting the political news. Did you miss these stories per chance?:D

The White House was in damage control mode Tuesday as an escalating series of potential scandals raised questions about whether officials abused their authority -- all while threatening to undermine President Obama's second-term ambitions.
The latest controversy to hit the headlines was the allegation that the Justice Department secretly obtained two months of phone records from Associated Press journalists. The AP went public with the charge Monday, and quickly earned sympathy from lawmakers on both sides who widely agreed that the record grab appeared to be unnecessarily intrusive.
This came on top of acknowledgement by the IRS that its agents had singled out conservative groups for additional scrutiny. In response, the administration made a series of announcements on Tuesday.

Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the Justice Department was launching an investigation into the IRS activity.

Holder claimed that he had recused himself from the leak probe which led to the AP phone records seizure last year, and that the deputy attorney general has handled that investigation.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney reiterated that Obama has "confidence" in Holder and his team, and remains concerned about the separate IRS issue.

The AP records were obtained by the Justice Department as part of an investigation into sensitive intelligence leaks.
House Speaker John Boehner's office said "they better have a damned good explanation" for obtaining the records.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, a Democrat, said he's "very troubled" by the allegations.
Holder is sure to come under heavy questioning on the matter when he appears on Capitol Hill for a hearing Wednesday.
The AP allegations amounted to the second controversy that raised concerns from members of both parties and could not be easily dismissed by the administration as a partisan attack. The other was the acknowledgement Friday by the IRS that it inappropriately singled out Tea Party and other conservative groups for scrutiny.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., a Tea Party-aligned lawmaker, said those responsible should be fired.
"Anybody who was aware of, and approved of targeting people for their political beliefs and speech, needs to be fired, never in this position again, and made an example of," he told Fox News on Tuesday.
Carney on Tuesday called the heat on the administration a product, in part, of the "rapid politicization of everything." But he said Obama has "serious concerns" about the IRS allegations.
Those two controversies came on top of a revived clamor in Washington over the Benghazi terror attack. Three whistle-blowers brought the issue back to the fore with their dramatic testimony last week. Further, newly published email excerpts show that a top State Department official pressed the intelligence community to water down its initial story line on the attack in the days before a top diplomat went on television to explain the attack to the public.
And amid that controversy, FoxNews.com and other news organizations reported that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has been reaching out to private-sector executives seeking donations for nonprofit organizations that help enroll people in ObamaCare.
The House Energy and Commerce Committee has already launched a probe into the solicitations. Republicans on the committee voiced concern that the department could be soliciting donations from firms that are also doing business with HHS.
Together, the scandals threaten to distract from Obama's second-term agenda. He recently suffered a defeat on gun control, but was hoping to align with influential Capitol Hill Republicans to push for an immigration overhaul in the coming weeks.
Obama, in a press conference on Monday, downplayed the scandals. He called Benghazi a political "sideshow" driven by partisan motives. As for the IRS, he made clear that he found the alleged conduct to be unacceptable and would not tolerate it.

The rest of the story :
White House in damage control mode as potential scandals pile up | Fox News

Anybody else believe that Obama found out about the IRS probes by hearing about it in a news report as he said ? If he did that is pitiful. I believe he found out about it when he ordered it. Perhaps if more of the federal government resources were investigating terrorist activity instead of Americans that have a different opinion than the current administration we wouldn't have attacks on us like Benghazi and Boston. Just saying.
