Wow... Hate to see I missed all the fun! Well now that you've got your rifle (glad to hear that it is rockin for you) I'll chime in. I personally am a Savage fan, but we shoot Remingtons at work, and I have shot a friends LTR, they are definitely nice rifles. I've also had great luck with Nikon scopes, got a Buckmaster 4-14x40 SFMD and a Monarch 4.5-16x42 SFMD, and they are just as good as my Leupold VXIII. (and it help to have a friend that gets big time Nikon discounts) Congrats again, nice rig.
Maclean... I'm quite envious of your long range shooting, I wish I had a place to shoot that far! I'm working on building a 500 yard range at my hunting land now, so one day I'll get to play a little at least.

Two of my friends and I decided to get some .308's to play with. One of my friends got a Savage, one got the Remmie and I got the FN SPR.
You will be very happy with the Remmie, but I agree that you should seek better glass than the Buschnell.
Remember to get solid rings too. I like the Badger Ord rings that I got.
Good luck.

+1 to the Badger rings, I also got the base from them.
