I don't know how much us wishful thinking or actual leaked info. A bit speculative still but I'm still excited about the possible improvements.

That ambi-magazine release pisses me off.
It's the only reason I don't own a 21SF. The right side of the catch rubs my finger raw with a high grip.
I'd like to see them make it reversible, along with the magazine release. That seems to make more sense for everyone.Quote:

I think having some kind of customizable backstrap makes sense for agencies that want to issue the same gun to all officers. We have a 95 pound officer carrying the Glock 22 and doesn't shoot well with it. Say what you want about hiring practices, those aren't going to change. It's easier to buy a gun that has options for the whole range of officers.
Also, from the perspective of the pencil pushers, a gun you can break down without pulling the trigger has its advantages. I know that despite training, every agency is going to have an officer who has a negligent discharge regardless of the gun. But for the guy sitting at a desk who has to sign the paperwork, a gun you don't have to touch the trigger to break down is going to be appealing.
Incorporating these issues into the next generation Glock will help the gun remain popular in LE and compete against some of these new weapons out there.
I'm not opposed to the adjustable backstrap for OSHA and reasonable accommodation issues.
I do think that you step away from a proven design when you have to screw with the trigger mechanism to idiot proof it from people who haven't learned to unload their gun before taking it apart.
I agree but continued competitiveness with other weapons that "appear" safer to bean counters may hurt Glock in the long run.Quote:

Its a smart move on Glock's part... I know of at least two large agencies in NC that are switching to the M&P including the NC SHP. One is giving up their glocks for them and the NC SHP is going for the Sig to the M&P.Quote:

I believe one of the biggest atrtributes of the G4 will be a double staged recoil spring similar to the sub compacts. I recently re-certed at the Glock Armorers class and the sales rep told me shooting the .40 felt like shooting a 9mm with the new design.

I don't really get that at all, making it better for more officers is great but IMO M&P needs about 20 more years in the field before they or anyone else can make any claim of it vs. a Glock.Quote:

I know this thread is old, but IMO after carrying both as duty weapons M&P>Glock. I know it hasn't been around long, but I've had ZERO malfunctions with either my full sized duty M&P or my BUG/off duty compact 40. I've had the compact for over 3 years now (got it just after the M&P came out) and zero problems. And I shoot a lot.
I purposely did my own little torture test with both my duty M&P and the Glock 22 which was my duty weapon at my old department. A week at the range for a class, a few thousand rounds, no cleaning. The Glock had only one malfunction, a stovepipe (wasn't me wristing, had it on video). The M&P didn't have any, and to this day a year and half later, still none even with the light.
To sum it up, M&P is easier to take down, more comfortable to shoot, has the adjustable backstraps, has a really well designed mag relese button, and in my own personal experience, is just as reliable. It also shoots with a light attached because of the steel chassis built into the frame.
And spcwes, I got 3 magazines free for my compact. IIRC 2 with the finger extensions and one with a flat baseplate. S&W runs promos all the time for free magazines.
