COLT!!
So I bit the bullet today. Put the money down on a Colt Commando with an 11.5 inch barrel (Model LE6933). A local shop had them on a KILLER deal....somewhere on the order of $1100 for LE. I think guys from my PD bought the entire stock out. They filled out the paper for my $200 ATF tax stamp too. It works out perfectly...my gun reimbursement through my PD is $1300! All I hear is how great Colt is, so I'm happy to put them to the test and be jumping into the NFA firearms waters. Still looking into a trust, but I'm doing this one vanilla and am going to get a CLEO sig and my prints done.
Now I just gotta wait on the stamp. What a pain in the ass, but I'm excited!

Sweet. Me and another member here have talked about it before but put alot of rounds through it first. I haven't handled a Colt yet that will run reliability yet without at least 500 rounds through it.

You won't regret it - if you ever do need parts for it, I highly suggest Specialized Armament.
Other than shooting it, the only thing to look at is which buffer they gave you.I'm your huckleberry...

Don't have it yet. Just sent off the forms last week. Took that long for my sheriff to sign. Ugh.

I'm going with a trust for my cans. Waiting around would be seriously annoying.

Dude... I want a super short SBR. Then I want to put a can on it, with a free float rail that covers the entire thing so just an inch or so of the can sticks out...total length of 12 inches or so.

Do it! Build a new upper for your 6933.

These photos are sweet but I have to admit some of the talk is over my head...tax stamp? NFA? What does that mean?

National Firearms Act. A gun control measure that stated that us citizens can't be trusted with a rifle with a shirt barrel / automatic weapons / silencers / etc. But their is a loop hole. In approving states you can pay a "tax" to the ATF who will issue you a permit to have such weapons.

Well, that's the outcome but it isn't a loophole.
The NFA requires that certain firearms and parts be registered, and that a tax be paid for their possession.
National Firearms Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This goes back to the methods used to keep people like Capone disarmed, because gangsters don't pay taxes and it was an easy way to charge them with crimes.
Anyone anywhere in the US is entitled to register an NFA weapon or part, but some States have placed more restrictive laws on top of the NFA.
The NFA also established rules about transporting certain weapons and parts across State lines.I'm your huckleberry...
