5 cups all purpose flour
3 tsp salt
2 1/2 cups shortening
cut these together until it makes a fine meal
in a 1 cup measure
1 large egg
1 tsp vinegar
cold water to top off cup measure
stir into flour/shortening
roll out bottom crust, place into pie pan, do not trim. Spoon apples into pastry shell; cut butter into small pieces and sprinkle over the apples
wet the edge of the bottom crust with water (this will help seal it to the top crust and prevent a pie filling blowout)
Place top crust on and firmly press the edges together.
cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Brush top crust with egg/milk mixture and sprinkle liberally with sugar and cinnamon.
Bake at 350 F for 45-55 minutes
I had a few apples and some pie crust leftover. My gf reminded me there was a little pecan pie filling in the fridge... hmmmmmm
A new pie invented! This was very tasty!
So you're going to share with us? Great! :)

By the way, IM....I see that someone is now making bacon flavored personal lube!
If you ate enough bacon it would be coming out your pores, therefore eliminating the need for this product.

I've never bothered peeling the apples. The peels tend to get nice and soft.
The pie goes great with caramel sauce. (Then again, what doesn't?)
2 cups granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
2/3 cup water
1 1/3 cups heavy cream
- Combine sugar, water and cream of tartar in a medium-sized heavy saucepan, dissolving sugar in liquid over medium-low heat. When dissolved, increase temperature to medium-high and cook stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon until caramel has reached a golden to amber brown color.
- Immediately remove pan from heat and slowly whisk the heavy cream into caramel in a small, but steady stream, whisking constantly but gently and carefully.
- Return pan to medium heat and bring to a boil, cook, stirring constantly, about 2 to 3 minutes or until sauce is thickened and smooth. Cool to room temperature before storing in refrigerator.
As soon as the right color develops, remove from heat. Once it starts getting the color it will go fast. When you add the cream, it will foam up like crazy. Just add slowly but constantly and keep stirring. I have used a hand whisk for the whole operation with great success.
