La Fonda El Taquito
This is the first Mexican restaurant I set foot in Kansas City over 12 years ago. Pauly the bartender is great, the most personable character of The Boulevard.
La Fonda El Taquito - Kansas City, MO, 64108 - Citysearch

The 'ritas here are consistent. Perfect balance of mix to liquor.

I give this a 4 out of a possible 5 rating.
(I know the food is great here because Pauly always brings me samples out of the kitchen. The mole is AWESOME!)

Manny's
Everyone will tell you Manny's is the best. But how do their 'ritas hold up?
Manny's Mexican Restaurant of Kansas City

Manny's 'rita

I gave this a 2 out of a possible 5 rating.
The drink was not mixed well. A 'rita should be shaken or "cracked" in a blender. This had a "layered" flavor. The free chips and salsa could not save this.

Ponak's
Touted as KC's best 'rita!
Ponaks Mexican Kitchen

This was last years BEST 'RITA. Nigel the bartender is one of the best in the business. The bar is always full of regulars. They make you feel like part of the family every time.
But, how is the 'rita?

Nigel will tell you the difference is they use less mix and more liquor. They use rose's lime instead of a basic sweet and sour mix. The clear almost syrup appearance tells you that. The flavor is awesome!
I gave this a 4.5 out of a possible 5 rating.

Taqueria Mexico
This was recommended by many locals.
Taqueria Mexico - Kansas City, MO

The 'ritas were offered in three different sizes. I opted for the medium.

This was a basic 'rita. Nothing bold or watered down.
I gave this a 3.5 out of a possible 5.

The Boulevard: 'rita run 2010: Recap
Although it is not on The Boulevard, Ted's Montana Grill's 1800 'rita is the best I have ever had.
Ponak's is still numero uno on The Boulevard.

Kansas City: Day 3
Back to...

The diner has many names and dates written on the walls. I asked the waitress about this. She said if you eat two of their pancakes, you get to write your name on the wall.

I decided it was my day to get my name on the wall!
Well, I tried...

I did not get much further than that. This was one of the best tasting pancakes I have ever eaten. It was just a bit too much, hehe.
Note: The City Diner is frequented by dozens of LEO's (K-9, Detectives, SWAT) and the KCFD, daily. Since I have not seen a strong KC crowd here I asked the waitress if I could put in a word for the APB/OR merge. Six members of the KC SWAT team were there. They seemed receptive and thought they would check it out and spread the word.

I chose the lunch portion burnt ends. This was very tasty, not many burnt pieces tho.

Very classy, knowledgeable staff really made this a great experience.

There was a band playing inside the bar that was very good. It was so packed I could not get close enough to take pics.
So, on the advice of a new friend, I was on a mission to find a late night breakfast.
Good night Knucklehead's
