    WHERE'S THE BEEF!

    I stopped by J & S Simmentals to visit about my favourite animals.



    Breeding cows usually start at 1 year.

    Bulls and heifers breed for about 10-12 years

    Heifers will average about 8-10 calves.

    Bulls at 1 year will start with 15-20 heifers.

    Bulls after first year get up to 35 heifers.

    Heifers that are not pregnant within 6 months are sent to market.

    Breeding animals are usually sent to market for grinding.

    PIONEER HALL

    The Pioneer Hall houses a flea market and a stage area that hosts bands and unique contests such as the husband calling contest and kids calling their moms contest. I usually stay away from those "calling contests".



    Out on the front lawn is a large display of antique farm machinery.

    One of many tractors on display.



    I went inside to listen to some fine bluegrass being performed by The Old Dudley band.

    UNIQUE

    One of the more unique things I saw this year.




    That is a garage door with built in tappers. When it is not busy they keep the door up. This establishment has two of these. Note the black hose on the left. The beer lines run through that. The kegs are actually stored in a freezer.

    I will be looking into this in more detail next year!
