The Adam Emmenecker
The Missouri Valley Conference Most Valuable Player of 2008 loves this sandwich. It's big... "really big..." just like all of those "really big" shots Adam sank in the Bulldogs' magical MVC Championship Season of 2008. Start with our huge pork tenderloin, add our Angus steak burger, top it with slabs of Texas brisket, apple wood bacon & fried cheese, finished with buffalo chicken tenders. We smother this mountain with melted cheddar cheese, and white cheddar sauce, serve it with your choice of side. This could hurt you! A sandwich fit for the MVP. 19.95

3 people ate it all with about 1 minute or less to go.
1 person ate it all in just over 7 minutes.
We arrived early. This is a nice open room. Plenty of room for big food!

The sauces.
These were really nondescript. The hot was mild, the white was vinegar/mayo/horseradish, Carolina was not tangy, the Georgia was supposed to be mustard/honey. Not all that.

I ordered The Jethro
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...A/IMG_3165.jpgQuote:
This isn't for everyone... It's porktastic; It's ginormous; We start with our famous tenderloin, we add Carolina style pulled pork, house smoked pit ham, and a double order of thick slab bacon, choose your side and then go for it... But remember... we warned you. 14.95
My friend ordered The Bulldog

*Our fresh Angus steak burger topped with Texas brisket, caramelized onion, roasted peppers and aged cheddar cheese. (We're talking real food here) 10.95
My friend took half of his sandwich home.
I got through the sandwich and a few fries.

The Jethro was actually very good. The tenderloin was a little over done but was still quality.
We will try the ribs on the next visit.
For the love of God, go to Dreamland in Tuscaloosa. I will take an off day to join you if need be.
Back to Jethro's for ribs!

I arrived around noon and saw the room was half full. The eleven big screens all with espn on. I took my perch up at the bar. The 20 beers on tap included some from Court Avenue Brewing Company | Des Moines, Iowa. Nice to see Jethro's supporting other local businesses.
I ordered the half slab loin back rib dinner with mac&chz, hot slaw and a corn muffin.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...A/IMG_3171.jpg
and a side of Texas brisket
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...A/IMG_3170.jpg
and a side of Carolina pulled pork
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...A/IMG_3169.jpg
I thought the ribs were perfect, just enough chew to them that all of the meat does not come off with the first bite.
Perfect pink smokiness, and the sweet sticky rub was nice but could have been spicier.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...A/IMG_3172.jpg
The sides were ok, you know me, my mac&chz is hard to beat. The hot slaw was a nice change. The corn muffin was a... corn muffin.
I would order the brisket again. The pulled pork did not quite keep my attention.

Overall, not bad for a sports bar.

Ya gotta love those old time BBQ joints!
Just like Arthur Bryant's BBQ in Kansas City
or Gates Bar B.Q.
There is some new blood out there. Two restaurants here have national awards, they are up next!

I am all for this. Some of Great's posts with the picture by picture how to instructions are amazing.
Trying to make BCup jealous to start more threads.:D

We arrived early and noticed someone shoveling snow by the entrance. He noticed I had taken a picture and asked if I was from out of town. This location is a quarter mile north of I-35/80. I told him I am local and post my ventures/cooking on message boards. We talked a little about what we were planning on ordering and then proceeded inside.
Nice spacious room with plenty of their trophies.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...A/IMG_3175.jpg
So many trophies, they line up through a back hallway.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...A/IMG_3176.jpg
There is a full bar and gameroom on the far side.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...A/IMG_3177.jpg
There were showcases throughout the restaurant with ribbons and plaques, but we were here to eat.
A tour is coming later!*
This is a counter service where you order, pay and given a number to display on your table. I ordered the ribs and brisket with mac & chz and baked beans.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...A/IMG_3178.jpg
My friend ordered the breaded tenderloin since they cut their pork loin fresh and breaded with panko.
The tenderloin was not just huge, but meaty also!
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...A/IMG_3180.jpg
There is a wide array of sauces. These were just the right tangyspicysweetness.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...A/IMG_3181.jpg
The ribs are a St. Louis style cut pork sparerib. Smokey D's is spot on with their ribs. These seemed to be fresh right out of the smoker, moist and tender. They have that perfect chew where it all does not fall off the bone, but is juicy and very tender. Did I mention juicyhotmoisttender? The rub had enough sweet spiciness that you should be punished if you dare put sauce on.
These were the best ribs I have ever tasted.

The guy that was shoveling when we arrived stopped by our booth to see how we were doing. It ended up being Darren Warth, Co-Owner of Smokey D's! I told Darren that was the best rack of ribs I have ever eaten. Darren said they will sell 100+ racks of ribs per day during the week, 250+ per day on the weekends. I mentioned that the dining area set up reminded me of Oklahoma Joe's History. Darren laughed and said he knows Jeff Stehney. I told Darren that I had OK Joe's ribs and that Smokey D's won the trophy today!
My friend and I will be going back next week.*
I found this place during my travels a few years ago and return whenever I have a chance, the food is outstanding.
