Meatless Mondays bedevil pork, beef producers | The Des Moines Register | DesMoinesRegister.com
Retail beef prices locally have shot up 40% in the last two weeks. Pork will be increasing this week.
Darren Warth, co-owner of Smokey D's BBQ said he was fortunate to have locked his prices in until the first week of July. We discussed costs while I was eating an order of their chicken fried steak fingers which are made with flank steak, a fairly pricey cut.
I could never participate in such an absurd event. I will double my meat intake on Mondays in protest.
Meatless Any-day is not gonna happen at my house. My motto is, "If it aint got meat, I aint gonna eat!"
Actually I almost had a meatless day yesterday except for the chicken in the tortellini I had. I was surprised how good I felt.
I think I'll counter with "Meaty Monday".
