A Good Day For an Oyster Search
Nice, warm, spring day, a couple of good friends and a ROAD TRIP!
First, we went to Amite, LA for the Oyster Festival. It was a nice little festival but when we asked where we could find the oysters, we were told that the oyster people left early! Well, shoot. We ate some shrimp and etouffee, watched a little bit of a pretty good Elvis imitator, then headed to the LaPlace exit off I55 for Bully's Halfway House. The non-drivers had a couple of Bully's world-famous bloody marys AKA "salad-in-a-glass" and I (non-drinker DD) had a virgin mary. It was delicious. We inquired about oysters but they said they only served them after 4pm. It was now 2. I really did not want to be in charge of a carload of folks that had been drinking bloody marys for 2 hours so off we went!
Next was Don's Seafood in Hammond LA where we found the missing oysters. We started with a couple of pounds of crawfish, then we had the oysters! Half shell, chargrilled, and these:
Don’s Original Jacked Up Oysters
Oysters lightly grilled and served in a skillet full of bacon, jalapeno peppers and topped with Pepper Jack Cheese served with toasted buttered bread.
The half-shells were fresh and fantastic, as were the others. We topped it off with a piece of key lime pie and headed back to the house. I don't think we will eat supper tonight!:D
