Went to the local butcher shop, got some ribs and a pork shoulder (Picnic roast). Had to wait for them to finish slicing and dicing.

My first attempt at making a dry rub. 2 teaspoons salt, one big teaspoon black pepper, one teaspoon paprika and one teaspoon cayenne pepper, one teaspoon garlic powder.

I also used this to add another layer.

I have Jack Daniels whiskey barrel chunks and chunks of mesquite wood on there, in the pan I have a light beer to evaporate and put a little moisture into the grill

After about 3hr. I had a little problem with the temp, it was a bit higher then I wanted, but the meat didn't burn or char.

Yes, I use bbq sauce. Can't have bbq without it. This is a homemade sauce I make.

After about 6.5 hours, roast is off and being turned into pulled pork for sandwiches.
Since this was my first forte into smoking with a grill, I made the meat a day early incase I ruined it, I'd still have time to get something together for the cookout with the family today.
The ribs went into the fridge with the bbq sauce, will warm it up on the grill at dinner time. The roast got shredded and mixed with a little more dry rub and bbq sauce. Sat in that overnight, and then will let it simmer the afternoon in a crockpot.
Now I'm off to get the homemade baked beans going. I'm considering making boston brown bread also.
