It's hard to beat a good bowl of hot soup on a cold winter day. Anybody got any good recipes? Something like clam chowder, chili, vegetable beef, etc.. And gumbo. Love me some gumbo.

IM Great is sure to have some. I will see if I can get the Space Needle recipe for Clam Chowder....they use heavy cream as a thickener...it is out of this world.
Car 4:D
I agree clam chowder is the way to go. Especially with a good sourdough bread bow.
Um Chili.

I'll post a couple of recipes this weekend. :thumb:
No recipe for me. I just pick up some Bear Creek soup mix Soups | Bear Creek Country Kitchens ® from the local Mills Fleet Farm. Usually Creamy Wild Rice or either Creamy Potato/Cheddar Potato. Then add lean chicken to the wild rice or shredded cheese and sometimes bacon to the potato soup. Either makes a very good, hearty meal!
No real recipe, but my wife makes a pretty awesome and simple Chicken Corn Chowder.
Season (with whatever you want) and bake three chicken breasts. When done, cut into chunks.
In a large pot:
1 large can of Cream of Mushroom
1 large can of Cream of Chicken
2 cans of mushrooms
2 cans of corn
Add baked chicken
Stir and simmer, salt and pepper to taste.
Leaves enough leftovers for the next day for a family of 5.
That sounds pretty damn yummy. I've really gotten into fixing a pot of chili or the above chicken corn chowder were the fam and I can eat on it for a couple of days. With mom and dad both on 12 hours shifts with two kids, it is a big help. That and it is a bonus for my father-in-law that sits in for us when we are both on the clock. Well fed help is happy help.
I like to make split pea soup in the winter, here's what I use:
1 lb dried green split peas
1/2 c chopped onion
1/2 c diced carrot
2 small cloves garlic, minced
2 bay leaves
1 tsp thyme
chicken stock, chicken broth, or water to just cover everything
meaty ham bone/ham hock/smoked turkey
salt and black pepper to taste
The quantities are approximate, I can double check my recipe when I'm back home, if necessary. I pretty much just put everything into the pot, bring to a boil then reduce the heat and simmer until the peas have disintegrated, maybe 1 1/2 hours or so. You might have to add a little more liquid as the soup cooks.
I generally remove the ham bone, strip off the meat, and add it into the soup.
Funny, that was born out of boredom (and a bare fridge) one night when we were engaged and living together. There wasn't that much ingredients then. :D
The veggies are only the small cans, so cut those down by one, and use the smaller cans of the creamed soup, and as much or as little chicken as you want.
It's best when the chicken is seasoned with Tastefully Simple's Green Tea Peppercorn seasoning and their seasoned salt.
