Pecan cookies with tiny bacon chips seem like they'd be good. Anyone tried that yet and lived?

From my Mom:
Grandma Annie's Economy Mincemeat Pie
(this was not the way Grandma Seidl made it, I do not know her recipe, but I know she used suet)
1 cup hamburger 1 cup water 1/2 tsp salt
simmer the above for a few minutes until meat loses its color
Add the following ingredients:
3 cups diced cooked apples
1 cup raisins
1 diced orange (optional--grandma did not use)
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup vinegar
1 tblsp oleo
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp allspice
That sounds damn tasty and meatier than most by a mile. The orange intrigues me, haven't seen that used before, hmmmm.
