Homemade Apple Pie
Well, sort of....
I made this recipe to give out to some friends and family for Christmas. Although I don't drink, I did taste it and it was pretty good. Tastes just like apple pie. Friends and family raved over it and they want me to make more. I'm told it is good hot or cold. It's based on an old moonshiner recipe.
I thought I would share the recipe I used. If you make it, just be warned that you can't taste the alcohol very much and I am told it will sneak up on you.
1 gallon of apple juice
1 gallon of apple cider
1 1/2 cups of white sugar
2 1/2 cups brown sugar
8 cinnamon sticks
1 liter of 190 Proof Grain Alcohol, Everclear or equivalent.
To get started, you need a large boiling pot. Add into this pot the apple juice, apple cider, the white and brown sugar, and the whole fresh cinnamon sticks. Bring these contents to a boil, then remove the pot from the stove and let it cool down to room temperature. Once at room temperature, gradually stir in the 190 proof grain alcohol. What you don’t consume in one sitting, you can bottle for later use. Store it in sterile Mason jars, place one cinnamon stick in each jar, and then store them in a cool dark dry place. After a couple of weeks your Apple Pie Moonshine will taste even better. This batch will make about 9 quarts.
Could this be 'the recipe' those Baldwin Sisters on The Waltons were talking about?
no they just had the shine. it is great that you posted this because i was going to post and ask today if anybody knew how to make it. i have heard that it is best with the natural mountain spring water. i lean towards the school of thought that if it comes in a mason jar it has to be good.
this is an awesome beverage
stores now sell a mass made version but it is not as good as the homemade stuff
I got this recipe from Sweetpea a couple years ago, we make it every Christmas and give it out as gifts to family. We save some for New Years Eve for ourselves. It is very good.
i made a half batch this weekend and i am pissed off.
should have made double batch. it was great. my wife is an apple pie snob and now wants me to make more.
I make this pretty regularly now, all of my family and friends request it at parties.
Hey Rob, bout time you showed back up! :D
Hey Ken, how have you been!
