I had an older officer assigned to my shift once that was not long for retirement. He was a softie and not much for doing the job unless he had to. A good portion of the youth he would run into gave him a hard time. He was a bit round in the belly and cared quite a bit for the sweets.
I was in the radio room one Halloween evening shift when he came in seeming a bit irritated. He was a bit red in the face, was holding a broken bag of Oreos and had a few in his hand. I asked him what happened and he said you won't believe it. He said he was patrolling near a grocery store with his window rolled down. As he passed a group of teenagers they yelled something derogatory and threw the bag of cookies at him. The bag struck the officer in the face, broke and scattered cookies all over him and the unit. I began gathering my things and told him lets go and see if we can find them. It sounded to me they needed a slight attitude adjustment. He popped a cookie in his mouth and replied "Hell no!" "I just got a free bag of cookies!"
