U.S. beef sales curbed in South Korea after 'mad cow disease' case
At least one major South Korean retailer has suspended the sale of U.S. beef after authorities confirmed a case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, sometimes referred to as "mad cow disease," in a dairy cow in central California.More here: http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/25/health...html?hpt=hp_c1Eating contaminated meat or some other animal products from cattle that have BSE is thought to be the cause of the fatal brain disease in humans that is called variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

It's a long standing standard bargaining tactic with South Korea. Long ago forgotten except in negotiations. Sorta like refusing turnips from Oregon because someone in Guam came down with polio. Even the reporter will fall asleep by day two of the trade talks, but MAD COW got their attention to report once.
IMG, wasn't it about five years ago they refused all shipments of beef from these shores over one crate with some "spinal content"? Someone ended up buying those ships full of beef, forget the details. That'd be a nice Rest of the Story if you recall how it turned out.

I do not recall the specific "spinal content" event.
I could see if S. Korea was purchasing any ground beef why there would be concern. If this was all primal cuts then this should not have been an issue.
I do not recall what age dairy cattle get the ax. From what farmers have told me, dairy cattle go exclusively to the grinder. To Live Is To Eat
