I got into Kansas City earlier than I expected so I stopped by a few spots before heading to dinner.

Phil and I talked for a bit about their new restaurant that was being built next door. Their current location has fewer than fifty seats. The new location is two stories with an open roof top and banquet facilities. This will expand their seating capacity to over four hundred. They should be open by late August of this year.

I told Phil I would be back later that week to eat their bbq. He recommended a small bar near my hotel, so I headed off for a few happy hour drinks.

The Peanut Kansas City's Oldest Bar and Grill
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...C/IMG_5862.jpg
The Peanut is known for it's buffalo wings and their BLT. BLT? Yeah, BLT.
The wings are HUGE. These are whole wings that weigh about eight ounces each. They are cooked to order. The menu says to allow twenty minutes. The sauce seems to be homemade and has just the right amount of heat. $8.25 for six of these monsters was one of the best deals of the trip.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...C/IMG_5856.jpg
The BLT was very good. The bacon was a decent quality bacon that was cooked with a bacon press so it cooked evenly and flat.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...C/IMG_5857.jpg
This is a cozy little place.

The ribs had the perfect chew to them. Great smokiness with a nice sweet spicy rub. The burnt ends were some of the best I have ever had. The sides were both equally flavorful and satisfying.

This was recommended for their biscuits and gravy. I noticed they claim to make their own chicken fried steak.
This was very good. A tenderized round steak dredged in seasoned flour and griddle fried. The gravy was well seasoned.

They had a small display of their sauces.
