Prices have increased more than that here.

Crop failure also equals the need to purchase feed from other sources. If this continues to become the trend, the quality of beef and pork will suffer as the prices rise.

EDIT: I am now buying top sirloin for $4.99/lb instead of $8.99/lb for my favorite New York Strip.

I've been talking with people at the sales barn, and neighbors, and found that many ranchers/farmers are selling large portions, or all of their herds because they can't afford to raise them. Either their pasture land is gone due to the drought, or they can't afford corn (or both).

So in addition to high corn and soybean prices, there is already a significant shortage in beef (that's only going to get worse).

That's the story here in Nebraska/Wyoming. The feed lots are packed because the ranchers don't have anything to put them on with good grass (or any grass for that matter). Guess I'm gonna start eating more salads... nahh, that's just crazy talk!

I can't believe that bacon is so expensive lately!!! One package of O-M center cut bacon was almost $7 at a local supermarket.

We have Farmland thick slice bulk bacon for $2.99/lb. right now.

It is extremely painfully lean.

I would expect the price of beef and pork to fall as the farmers sell off large numbers. The farmers around here didnt make enough hay to feed through the winter. They are in selling mode. The slaughter houses should be very busy and over stocked.
