A work obligation has kept me busy for the last few days, but last week I made a couple of salad dressing and marinade variations, mustard, and marshmallows (for S'mores) with the 5-0 and Backdraft rubs. I haven't had a chance to taste everything yet, will report back when I do.

I've used each of the seasonings on homemade french fries (both white and sweet potato fries), and also used the Rescue Rub in scrambled eggs. All are delicious!

I just had a salad with romaine/spinach and veggies. Topped with tuna and 5-0 Rub and a spritz of lime.

    Tonight's snack for me

It's in the oven now at 425 degrees.

Should I have cream soda or root beer?

Come on over. I love any drink that ends in rita. I have quite the collection of tequila! !!!! One thing i did that set these tacos off was put two teaspoons of lemon juice on it the last 2 minutes of it cooking. The flavor of the backdraft offset by the lemon was amazing

What tequilas do you have in stock? From my KC trip I still have 30-30, Epsalon Reposado, Sauza Blue Gold and Blue Silver, El Zarco Gold and Cuervo Traditional Silver.

Great idea to add lemon at the end! Another citrus kick is to add lime in your chili just before serving!

    Fries being prepped!

Blanched in water/vinegar. These set out to dry a few hours.

Getting fried twice. Once at 325 for one minute and second at 375 for 5-7 minutes.

    Tossed with 5-0 Rub.

The Salad with Backdraft Bacon Ranch Dressing!

Romaine and Spinach mix with onion and bell peppers.

I mixed 1/2 cup of our homemade buttermilk ranch dressing with a heaping teaspoon of Backdraft Rub and two strips of bacon, chopped.

This salad dressing was so good I could have drank it by itself!

Presentation: The Code3Spice vs. IMG Q Rub

Backdraft rub apple wood smoked pork shoulder steak on the right. IMG Q Rub apple wood smoked pork shoulder steak on the left.
Served with 5-0 Rub seasoned homemade fries.

    Nice smoke ring.

The fries were a hit! Light fluffy inside, crisp outside with the smokey sweet 5-0 rub seasoning.

The pork shoulder steaks actually tasted very similar! I would say it was nearly a tie for flavor. I will not reveal the IMG Q Rub here just yet.

Scrambled eggs with the Rescue Rub... Not impressed. Used about the amount I would with Old Bay, and just didn't really taste it.

Burgers with the 5-0 Rub... Win. About 2 tablespoons worked into about 2 1/2 lbs meat. Went over great with my family, too.

For dinner tonight I used the Backdraft Rub on pan-seared scallops and also added it to a warm elote salad. Normally I use ground chili pepper in the salad, this time I replaced some of the chili pepper with the Backdraft Rub. It gave it a nice, chipotle-esque flavor.

Old Bay is a relatively concentrated seasoning with a lot of strong, astringent spices so I can see where a one on one replacement wouldn't work. Try adding a little more of the Rescue Rub next time, see if that makes a difference. There might be a little more sodium in Old Bay, too.
