    Healthy recipe ideas

    Ok guys, I need some help here. My doc has me on a 1600 calorie a day diet, low in fat and sodium. I'm to get 7 servings of whole grain, 4 veggies, 3-4 fruit, and am allowed 7oz of meat daily because she saw panic in my eyes at the standard allowance of 3. It's a modified DASH diet. I'm getting really tired of salad. Anyone have some favorite healthy recipes that they'd be willing to share?

    Apples. There is a chemical in apples that reduces the appetite. So you can cut down and still feel full.

    I've had apples most ways they can be had. I have a limit of one per day because of the 1600 calorie thing.

    Umm, an apple is around 52 calories. So a couple of apples for lunch is no big deal. Which leaves a decent sized evening meal.

    I get that they're low calorie, which is why I eat them to begin with. I've cored them, nuked them, and sprinkled them with cinnamon (no sugar) to get a change of flavor. I've cut them up and roasted them with the bit of chicken or pork I'm allowed. Eaten them raw. Baked with carrots. Put them in the food processor and made no sugar apple sauce. I like apples. But I need something different that still falls in the range of things I'm allowed. I need meal ideas that are healthy and aren't salad with a bit of chicken. I've never looked at my dinner and gotten depressed before.

    No, I think you are mistaking my point. Apples contain a chemical that suppresses the appetite. Just apples, not cooked, treated, altered etc. I lost 30 lbs in 4 months, just by having an apple for lunch and another mid afternoon. 2 slices toast for breakfast and and a normal dinner (probably around 1000-1200 calories).

    Check some vegetarian cookbooks. There are a lot of flavorful, vegetarian or very low meat meals out there, other than salads, and with a careful eye towards portion sizes they're probably reasonable.
    Voting against incumbents until we get a Congress that does its job.

    A lot of great input here. I eat two apples every day, along with a couple other fruit. My lunch is all veggies.
    Breakfast is an oatmeal concoction that I will post.
    My weakness comes when I clock out and head home. Alcohol and food take over.
