Police Paparazzi snapping my picture
Yep, a photo enforcement camera snapped a fine picture of my vehicle going 36 in a 25. $50 down the drain, and a nice addition to the background packet I was about to turn in
Guess I should pay more attention to those signs with numbers on them.

I've heard of red-light cameras, but from where I'm from we don't have any speed cameras! That sucks.
I heard a rumor that E-Z Pass was going to "merge in" with Law Enforcement and start calculating one's average speed from one toll to the next. If your average speed is worthy of a ticket, you'll be getting a surprise in the mail a few days later. Although I have yet to hear anything more about it and I've never heard of someone receieving a ticket this way, I still think that would be a little much also.Calm Like A Bomb...

That is stupid. Speed camera's should not take the place of real life LEO's running radar. One of the biggest luxuries and responsibilities in our job is officer discretion. When you have a preset speed set to ticket someone, you don't have that option.
Unfortunately, city officials may use the speed camera as a tool to justify not hiring more officers. Then of course you also have the identification issues, just like you do with the red light cameras.
City officials who don't know how to budget money appropriately, or obtain state or federal funding, love speed cameras. That way they have a cheap, quick way to make money for the city that they normally wouldn't.Last edited by Terminator; 11-13-06 at 01:10 PM.

Yeah that's kinda how I felt about it. Wanted to beat my head against the wall when I saw I only entered the ticketing threshold by 1mph. It also stated clearly on the ticket that I was responsible for the fine even if I wasn't driving. Next time I'll be sure to borrow a friend's car when I want to get lost in DC

That's a load of crap. You shouldn't have to pay. If they can't prove it was you driving, they shouldn't be allowed to ticket you.
We don't have speed cameras here, but we do have a few red light ones which are quite the cash cow according to the newspaper. I'm going to have to really watch it when I move to Alberta.

Don't know how it works there... but it may not have any impact on your background. Our fine city considers Red light/Photo Radar tickets to be strictly civil in nature, and no points are assessed regardless of speed. They just want yer money!!! I think Colorado on a whole may look at it this way as well.
Still, I hate those fucking things. Our brass will actually send us tickets that we get from those things while on patrol in our police vehicles (they even like to look at the log sheets to make sure we weren't on an "authorized" emergency run at the time... and even if we were, lights and sirens better be going at the time the picture was taken). Any cop knows that sometimes you need to get there NOW, even if the Ops Manual doesn't quite allow you to get there quickly... Still, plenty of our guys have had to pay for these on-duty infractions.

Oh you'd love England then. You can't drive anywhere without the Cameras waiting for you. Even have the Average Speed calculating ones on Motorway gantries. £60 fine and 3 points on your licence. 12points in 3 years, Bye Bye licence. They are even bringing in a camera system that takes a picture of the driver at the same time!
