Family dead
It was reported by very reliable sources that a Richland County (SC) Sheriffs Deputy's family died in a house fire sometime late last night or eary this morning. It is unknown if the Deputy was in the house or on duty when the fire occurred.

Richland County Deputy Family Killed-update
(Elgin) December 8, 2006 - There was a fire in Elgin Friday morning that killed two people. The wife and daughter of a Richland County Sheriff's deputy were the victims.
The home of Investigator Terry Downie caught fire during the early morning hours of December 8, and the fire took his wife Marie and daughter Ashleigh.
Terry has been an investigator with the Richland County Sheriff's Department for over 19 years. Marie was an integral part of the Richland County Sheriff's Department's Spouses Association. She was the very first president of the organization and was instrumental in uniting the spouses of the Sheriff's Department under the mission of the Association.
The Association's main goal is to come to the aid of personnel who suffer tragedy or hardship.
Ashleigh was an active member of the Richland County Sheriff's Department's Explorer Post. Ashleigh was at every training and event that the Explorers participated in and was a leader. A news release from Sheriff Leon Lott states, "Ashleigh's beaming personality and dedication to improving herself and the community will be greatly missed."
The Richland County Sheriff's Foundation will be accepting donations on behalf of Terry. Carolina First Bank branches throughout South Carolina will be receiving monetary donations.
Please make checks payable to Richland County Sheriff's Foundation, designate for the Terry Downie Fund, and deliver the checks to a Carolina First branch or to the Richland County Sheriff's Headquarters at 5623 Two Notch Road.
Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Also, lets not forget the Airken County SC Deputy/SGT killed while on a traffic control assignment.
