Tip about ATM Cards
I received this in an email, does anyone know if this is true or not, kind of hard to believe but...?
PIN NUMBER REVERSAL (GOOD TO KNOW)
If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from
an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in
reverse.
For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM
recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed
in the machine.
The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the
robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you.
This information was recently broadcasted on TV and it states that it is
seldom
used because people don't know it exists.
I've also gotten emails that stated #77 on your cell phone will connect you with the Highway Patrol is that true?

I'm dubious to say the least....
The #77 sounds regional. I was thinking it's three digits here.

Pay pal
Also on the same note- if anyone gets an e-mail about something purchased on ebay with a credit card through paypal and you never have it is a scam. The e-mail will tell you to click verify if you did not purchase any item then it will ask you for you personal info. Also on the e-mail itself it will read -Dear valued customer- And paypal will address you by your name. So if any one gets a e-mail from paypal when you didn't purchase a item on ebay just forward it to paypals website.

It's false: http://www.snopes.com/business/bank/pinalert.asp
The idea has been promoted and patented, though. According to the article, the guy who came up with the idea has been trying to persaude banks to use the idea for quite a while but has been unsuccessful for a number of reasons.

My PIN is 7337. Ok no it's not, but if it were and this myth were true, I'd have plenty of contacts with the poh-leece as often as I take out money from the ATM.
It wouldn't be a bad option to have though.

Someone tries to jack me to get me to pull money from an ATM, they're going to be very disappointed. My bank balance is low enough it oftentimes won't even give me money when I want it to, much less for someone else. Not to mention I don't really remember my PIN.

#77 is sometimes true; in VA, for example, it will connect you to the State Police. However, in some other states, it's a different "number." The best advice is to watch the road signs; most will tell you something like that every so-many miles along the road or near exits, just like the mileage to various places signs.
As to PIN codes for help... I'd love to see them put some sort of duress code, or give you the option to have a "duress PIN." But I doubt it'll happen soon... And I can't even imagine how long it'd take them to get a cop to you between jumping through the bank monitoring and other steps before getting a cop on the scene.
